The ABTT Theatre Show Delivers Eco Lighting Solutions
Lighting&Sound America Online -News: "The ABTT (Association of British Theatre Technicians) Theatre Show has always been a showcase for the latest technology in the theatre and presentation markets and this year's event will be no exception. A highlight among the many new products and emerging technologies that will be on display at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London June 15-16 is LED (light emitting diode) lighting, which is becoming more widely used in the staging industry.

No surprise here.
As the technology becomes more efficient and of a better quality more people will be attracted to it and more vendors will be selling them.
I'd be interested to see what drove the development of LEDs: either fiscal or green issues? They save money on your electric bill. Is the drive to use them to save money or to save electricity (and therefore other resources.) I'd like to not by cynical and say the development of greener technology is the actual concern about green concepts but how much of this is trying to make a better light that costs less?
I think Matt makes many good points here. But there's another thing, right? It's cool to be green these days. And companies that can tout their energy savings and "forward thinking globally minded" company can earn cool-points, grab headlines, and perhaps gain some respect.
Sure the electric bill is lower, and in the long term that might be worthwhile. I'm sure that there will be a paradigm shift at some point, I always wonder how far away that is. But hey, maybe the cost of LEDs is offset by labor: less to repair/maintain, no need for gel (cutting it, dropping it, replacing it). Could be easier in the long term, but when does the technology reach that point?
This is very interesting that they are focusing on LED lighting now. It seems like LED lights has been out for a long time and they are just pushing it now. This technology is great, I just hope that they come out will some Source 4 lights that are LED and focusable making them easy to work with in the coming months. That is one type of light that they are really missing the mark. I know that it is hard to make an LED focusable and give good output. What would even be cooler is if they came out with a LED upgrade of attachment that could make you standard Source 4 and LED one without having to change the light much to do this change over.
