At one time the Bolshoi was a mecca of the arts. Since the fall of the Soviet Union the arts in Russia seemed to suffer from a severe lack of funds and as usual that caused many problems. We in the United States are used to taking collections in community theater and working our way up to paying shows. In Russia, the government funded the arts prior to 1991. Now, the Russian people have to find a new way to fund the arts and this is a whole new venue for them. I am glad to see that the Bolshoi is at last to reopen.
