Montreal theatre gig cancelled for convicted killer Bertrand Cantat

The Globe and Mail: "The Montreal theatre company where he was to perform in 2012 announced Friday that Mr. Cantat, who was paroled in 2007 after serving four years for the fatal beating of his girlfriend in 2003, has withdrawn from all Canadian performances of an adaptation of Sophocles’s plays about women created by the renowned Quebec theatre director Wajdi Mouawad. His participation drew a firestorm of criticism when the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde unveiled its new season this week, although TNM artistic director Lorraine Pintal said Mr. Cantat has visited Canada previously to work on music for the Sophocles show and another Mouawad production.
