Position: Technical Director

Status: Full-Time, seasonal, exempt

The Milwaukee Repertory Theater is seeking an experienced Technical Director for 11-12 season. The TD collaborates with designers, directors and other production departments to develop a plan that realizes the scenic design. TD is also responsible for communicating scenic needs between all other production departments. Candidate will manage resident IA crew members (master carpenter, 2 shop carpenters, and performance run crew associated with scenery), between the 3 theaters at Milwaukee Rep and oversee the over-hire IA crew for load-ins and changeovers. The TD will also supervise the Production Purchaser, Assistant Technical Director and Assistant Stagehand. The Technical Director will also function as the TD for any productions The Rep may produce or present during the length of this agreement, including A CHRISTMAS CAROL, the Annual Gala, and any Tour production. Ideal candidate will possess strong skills in communication, collaboration, troubleshooting and leadership.

The ideal candidate should have significant experience in and knowledge of scenery construction, estimating of time and materials, stage rigging, & mechanical design. Applicant must be proficient in AutoCAD (and have working knowledge of Vectorworks). Responsibilities include supervising IATSE crew and non union scenic staff; directing the manufacture, installation, and strike of all scenic elements; designing technical solutions for the movement, function, and structure of scenic elements; overseeing the annual budget for scenery; oversee maintenance of tools, equipment, and spaces.

Since the Technical Director manages the show budgets and a department maintenance budget, fiscal responsibility and the ability to accurately project the costs of design implementation are important. Position is seasonal, full time, exempt position. Five years of TD experience in regional theatre (preferably LORT) required. Position is salaried and includes health benefits.
