Fired 'Spider-Man' director looks for payday
NYPOST.com: "Mercurial 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' director Julie Taymor is balking at efforts by the Broadway show's producers to oust her -- at least without giving her a hefty payday first, sources said yesterday.

What a mess! I think that Taymore is doing herself a disservice by refusing to leave gracefully. As the director, the artistic content of the show has been her responsibility since Day One, and if it is not up to par she should be held responsible. She has obviously not done her job well and she needs to accept that and move on. I think that her reputation will suffer even more if she continues to behave as this article describes.
Taymor painted herself into a corner a long time ago and is just getting hit with consequences that should have surfaced already. This big ugly exit certainly does nothing to help her image, I don't know what could. On the other hand, maybe she should take the script with her, give the revamped production a fighting chance.
While Taymor maybe making too big of a deal about her leaving the show, I understand her anger. The process may have been crazy and a national joke, but she deserves to be compensated. It's the producers fault that they kept everything going for so long. However unfortunately Taymor is drawing blame to herself by making a scene in her exit.
I can see how if a project you thought would be the greatest success on Broadway, born and raised by your own ideas, turns out to be infamous for its failure, that a big fat check would certainly make you feel better about accepting that failure. She took a lot of risks and was hugely committed to this show, it got to this point through her dedication and persistence. She's probably been the fighter behind spiderman this whole time, it would be weird if she just walked out and moved on. I don't know why, but I'm glad they would pull out the julie inspired character and let it stay within julie herself. I think thats the right thing to do. I also think julie is right in taking her script but should be okay with the fact that they are going to try again without her. I like that she doesn't give a damn about her bad reputation, she's leaving with a fight and the biggest check she can get.
