National Deals for Students!
College Candy: "If we could only use one word to describe college students it would be “drunk.” Wait. I mean, it would be “broke.” (Though “drunk” is also pretty spot on.) Between the cost of a college education, the books to get that education, and the drinks that come along with that education, most college students don’t have much money left to do the one thing we love most…shop!

It is interesting that someone put together a little blog about this. I feel like there are number of sites like this. Also, some of these I already knew about because at the beginning of the year, first year students (and maybe everyone else) got a booklet that says sales that are in Pittsburgh, including the J. Crew and also 15% off at American Apparel. Next year track down a booklet, there are some pretty good deals local to Pittsburgh, too.
I actually didn't know about most of these sales. Although, if a college student is "broke" then these sales aren't really going to help them much. I think the writer and I have different definitions of broke.
Though if you're "broke" as in the writer's definition, these sales are great!
But uh...someone tell me where the clearance racks are. That's where it's at.
I agree with Scott on this. The definition of "broke" with this author isn't exactly what I think of when think "broke". How about being so broke you can't afford even these sale prices. Sales are nice but they don't do you much good if you don't have two cents to rub together at all. I know some college students have to decide whats more important their new text book or food. I couldn't imagine trying to make that decision! Luckily I'm not that broke and it is nice to have a list of place that have great sales that I can take part in. After all I am still human and like to shop sometimes when I have the time and money.
This seems too easy. There has to be a catch somewhere. I am sure there are loop holes. And we are all so broke that 20% off isn't going to help. It needs to be free. But that will never happen.
Why hasn't a larger agency put this together. I know places like Student Advantage offer discounts on things as well.
They aren't going to put it out there for free... Meg is right, you have to go hunting.
This reminds me of the tax breaks we were talking about in PTM Professional Practices. As young people we tend to believe that nothing is negotiable in our country, but that is entirely not true. We need to be learn to be more savvy about how we spend money and how we save it. Unfortunately, for most of us it needs to be spelled out for us, but clearly the information is out there and easily accessible because the writer of this article googled all her tips. We need to learn to do more research into the items we want to buy or the bills we need to pay off. So many of us just take everything for the face value, which may not be an honest face or the only side of that face (if that made any sense).
I think this is pretty great. I was not aware that a lot of these places did this... and as everyone else said, yes, 20% doesn't help much when you don't have anything to spend in the first place, but hey, we all buy things sometimes. Any little bit helps. How many people do you know, "broke" or not, that don't have a cell phone? 20% of your plan every month will definitely help make that bill a bit more manageable. Now, I'm on my own plan, but I'm interested whether people who are on the family plan that have their parents as the name on record can also receive the discount if one of the lines is that of a college student. Definitely worth looking into.
It seems to me like there might already be multiple websites about his already out there. Most of the sales that I've found comes from just asking the cashier every single time if there is a student discount. It's an annoying practice to get into and most of the time there are no deals, but when they do have a sale, hoo boy, it's the best.
