Actors Join L.A. Labor Protesters

Backstage: "March 26 was dubbed 'Solidarity Saturday' in Los Angeles, as thousands of union workers from the surrounding areas marched the streets of downtown L.A. and rallied in Pershing Square to protest efforts to weaken public-employee unions. Among those marchers were members of the Screen Actors Guild.

Wait, isn't the protest against union changes in non-SAG unions? I read about halfway through that many SAG performers are middle class, and I like that they are going out to support their follow community members. And the fact that MOVE is a thing is a nice community effort from SAG. Props to them.

Are they getting ready for other states to take away other bargaining rights? That's what it sounds like. But, unions across the country have to stand together and support each other. That's how unions work, strength in numbers. This is just the broader picture.

However, I do believe that the concept of unions and how they function in this country needs to change. I do not think their bargaining rights should be taken away, but they may have too much power. This is a part of what is sending so many jobs over seas.

But that is a larger topic for another day and a beer.
