With just under 2 hours to go…
Backstage at BackstageJobs.com | Life behind the scenes…: "In a bit less than 2 hours, Chicago finds out if it will be getting five rings, or just the finger. [UPDATE: We got the finger. No Olympics.] But last night in the pouring rain, preparations were being made for the live feed of the final presentations, as well as voting. As was done earlier in the week, the CBS2 jumbotron next to Daley Plaza was set to solid white. Perfect for worklight, or broadcast keylight."

Well that just sucks. Not that Chicago didn't get the Olympics, but that technicians has to set all of that up for nothing in the rain. But that's what we love. Doing whatever is necessary to get the job done so it looks good, even when we lose. Though the jumbo tron is finny in Chicago, since there isn't anything like Time Square there. All the excitement and hoopla, just to get the finger.
To bad for Chicago not getting the Olympics, I know the Obamas are sad, but really where were the Oylmpics going to fit in Chicago?
So sad for the technicians as Cody has pointed out that had to set up everything in the rain just to get the finger, as the article put it.
On a happier note, it's exciting that Rio gets to host the 2016 Olympics making them the first South American country to host.
it sucks the the USA that we did not get the olympics i went to the winter olympics in salt lake city and it was amazing to go see the olympics are one of thous thing that people should go and see once in there life. also all of the time to get ready for the event of choosing wether or not they got it olympics. also the rain that happened and then no one showed up to the event that all of thous people spent so much time setting up and also all the money that they spent on it. and no one was there to see the work that they had done.
As stated above, it is sad news that Chicago did not get the Olympics. But the technicians did do all the work for the preparaton. I know that while many people feel this was a waste of time, the technicains still stood out in the rain to make sure it was ready for the possibility of th event. This shows the dedication of the technicians, which is a important attribute for a tech in any employment or situation.
It's really great to see the technicians going out and working in the rain to get the job done, even though you never know what conditions you deal with, and what's going to happen necessarily with the event (I'm a Chicagoan, and therefore, a little unhappy about not getting the Olympics). As Tim said, it's good to see the dedication of the technicians as they try to get the job done.
I juts want to say that this is plain STUPID. Not getting an olympic bid is not equivalent to getting the finger, and it's just an utterly childish thing to say. With cities around the world in the running why on earth do you feel that you can complain that you set everything up and didn't get it. The chances were slim anyway. Get over it, and yourselves.
Um, last Anonymous commenter? I'm the original writer. The "rings or the finger" bit: that's what is known as a joke. Rings go on fingers. There are even cards sent out to announce a divorce with the line "Met the wrong man. Gave him the wrong finger." The wrong finger, in that case, would be the ring finger.
Relax.
Nowhere in my post did I complain about the set-up. I wasn't even on that job. Regardless of the outcome of the vote, the gear still needed to be set-up, and taken down. The fact that Chicago did not get the Olympics only resulted in taking the gear down earlier in the day.
The post was to show the event set-up going on the night before. It did not stake a position for or against the Olympics.
Personally, I would have been happy either way.
