Seeking Students / Interns for Independent Film Production

Craigslist: "Locally-based production company is looking for students who are eager to learn various aspects of film production while working on a live set, on location in and around Pittsburgh. We are looking for people to serve as grips, camera assistants, set dressers, wardrobe and make-up artists."

I've always been curious about the School of Drama's policy on internships; Carnegie Mellon in general is very hesitant about accepting outside credit in any form. When I asked my adviser, she didn't seem to think I would get anything from the University at all from it; I'd be doing it for the experience and the credit on my resume. This more than enough for someone with my aspirations, but it's always nice to know that hard work is recognized by one's institution.

That said, I think I shall apply for this. It may completely destroy my crew and homework schedule, but we shall see.

This internship sounds like a great opportunity. I think that it would be very interesting and a fun experience, especially because I am sure that it varies so mcuh from what we are used to. I personally think it would be a completely different experience than say working on a play, or musical. I appreciate that they are offering these internships to local people for such a different learning experience

I really think that if you find the right internship, you can have a really rewarding experience that won't distract you from school. I found with my current internship that by telling them exactly how much time I could commit and then supplementing that by saying some weeks I would be unavailable, I was able to put my schoolwork into first priority, and then work on the internship if I had time. If you find a company that is flexible enough to work around you, I highly recommend it.

I thought School of Drama's policy was no outside work unless you were a senior in good standings. I hope an exception can be made for this one, since it is mostly on the weekend for those students who wish to apply. I personally have no desire currently to go into television, but this looks like a nice opportunity for some one who is interested! Good Luck Cass!
