Review: 'Ella' might earn singing legend new fans

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "The lives of great performers do not always make for great drama.
For those who live most fully and vibrantly onstage, the times between performances are a dormant period they endure impatiently until the next gig.
Ella Fitzgerald was one of those performers."

It's great that a play or musical can revitalize something no longer popular. For instance, I really did not know of many Four Seasons songs until Jersey Boys came out, and I had not heard much from Abba until Mamma Mia came out. Hopefully this musical can bring many new fans to Ella Fitzgerald. These plays can really help to keep great music alive and popular generations past its release.

I am really happy that this play is doing so well, and is accepted with open arms by the public. I think it is great that a show like this can be so entertaing and engrossing that it can make previous fans happy, and create fans from people who otherwise might never have heard her music. Especially because I truly love Ella Fitzgerald, and I can appreciate people fingding out about her however they can.

Having read previous articles about this new show, I really want to go see it because despite loving to listen to Ella Fitzgeral, I know very little about her, like many other people I'm sure. Like the article said, making musicals about certain musicians or other real life people can be a bit difficult, but I think Ella Fitzgerald is one person that has such an interesting and fibrant life that it could be portrayed effectively through a musical.
