Variety: "Daniel Radcliffe will head the cast of an upcoming New York reading of 1961 tuner 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,' marking the first musical turn for the 'Harry Potter' star.
Producers Broadway Across America, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are test driving the project for a potential Rialto revival."

I would looovveee to see Daniel Radcliffe in "how to succeed in business without really trying", i think its really great when actors try to cross over from film to theatre or vice versa especially an actor like daniel radcliffe, who kind of runs the risk of being thought of in people's minds as harry potter forever, such a young and talented actor should not def not be typecast like that and its great that he's considering taking on a show with such great energy that really can showcase his acting abilities more so than harry potter, not to insult hp at all
My only question is why? A revival was done fairly recently, and there is really no explanation for why they are doing is specific show. It is a if they randomly picked a show they thought Daniel Radcliffe would be good in. Not to mention it is his first musical debut. The whole production seems like a big publicity stunt. I will be interested to see who else gets added to the cast, how everything turns out.
First off I would like to point out the ridiculous-ness of Daniel Radcliffe's suit! That is some strange fabric for a suit.
Okay, on to the important material in the article. As Kelli said this seems to be a show that Daniel fits into more than anything else. He is the only one currently cast and this would be his musical debut. Seems a little fishy to me. Hopefully the producers know what they are doing!
It seems to me that Daniel Radcliffe is being used only for his name. He hasn't really "proved" himself as an actor, aside from his role in Equus. He was, afterall cast as Harry Potter at a very young age, and has just been riding off of that success ever since. I don't think that he has really done anything spectacular enough with the Harry Potter franchise to really make me expect an incredible performance with How to Succeed. I'd be more willing to see it if it had some lesser known, but more talented actor in it.
Can he sing? I always found Daniel Radcliffe's voice irritating in Harry Potter and then again in Equus. If I were casting this then the token "Finch" traits I'd look for would be polar opposite to the way I think of Daniel Radcliffe. I guess that if he can pull this role off then he's a much better actor than I think he is. I also think its odd to be doing another revival so soon after the Broderick one. Can't they find (novel idea) a NEW musical. I know there are people looking for work.
It's interesting that yet again, a Broadway show is trying to use a big name to attract an audience. Yet who can blame them? even just looking at this article, its one of the most popular ones to comment on this week. The show is sure to attract many people just for casting Radcliffe. However, past broadway shows have failed because the cast was based on their fame rather than talent at that specific role. I have faith in Radcliffe's acting, actually. From what I have heard from about Equus and other smaller, less hollywood like films, I've been impressed. Judging him based solely on the Harry Potter films is a mistake. It will certainly be interesting to see if he can live up to this role.
Also, I agree with Katherine. That is one very... interesting suit.
This kid clearly has a plan. A big name in a show that struggling adults can relate to. What more could you ask for, except maybe a little quality. I agree with these comments that it is a publicity stunt, and that it is all for cash- but yeah gotta give them some credit. It is a great move and chance to earn some money in a guranteed hit like this. I am interested to see if it happens, and if Daniel Radcliffe will remain the lead. Also is the show touring or going to be remounted in NYC, since the producers are the Broadway across America producers.
I am curious as to why they're so very set in casting Daniel Radcliffe in this role. I've never heard of him having any sort of musical talent, and certainly he hasn't had any exposure to the 'triple-threat' world of musical theatre (that is, acting, singing and dancing). I suppose you could say that he did a fair job in Equus, but its hard to judge such a performance in comparison to something like How To Succeed.
However, if the producers end up knowing a lot more than they let on, this revival could be quite the hit and take Broadway by storm purely because of thousands and thousands of screaming girls in love with Harry Potter. Whatever works, works.
I am a little tired of people getting on big-named actors for taking on broadway shows...etc. Daniel Radcliffe looks like he would be good in the show, and I'm excited to see his work.
Just because someone is a big-named actor doesn't negate his ability. Sure, he was Harry Potter. I'm just impressed that he found such success early on. But, I'm also glad he's trying new things. I just hope he is able to carry the weight of doing a big musical.
I am so appalled by this! Probably because I am working on the current CMU production, but still... c'mon. I don't understand the concept of the reading, especially considering that they recently revived the show on Broadway, as Kelli already pointed out. And Daniel Radcliffe? Really? I have to question their decision in a big way.
