The Tartan Online: "With the recent amount of unending media attention and popularity being thrown at Pittsburgh, Hollywood executives are finally discovering everything that this city has to offer."
its really great that Pittsburgh is harboring such a great excitement and involvement with films, theatre, the arts, and music so recently. from the g20 to all the media attention we receive from our great sports teams, its been a really great couple years for pittsburgh and people are starting to see it as a center of culture which is great for students at CMU right now like myself who can reap the benefits of all the new additions to the pittsburgh arts scene
I love how we are in a city with such a vibrant arts culture, and attracting so much of the industry to it. (now if only we had time to go explore all that great stuff) One of my friends was an extra on one of the film sets last week, another few will be going to the ballet tonight, i am planning on seeing Jekyll and Hyde next week. We do get out. but there;s SO much out there that it becomes overwhelming. Does anyone know of one website or resource that lists all of these different events in one place?
Before I moved out to Pittsburgh from the West Coast all that I knew was that Pittsburgh was an old city that manufactured steel. After living here it is so much more diversity and culture than everyone gives it credit for. Pittsburgh has a huge art scene along with history that most people do not know about. Before I leave I hope to take the time to really investigate that city to see what everyone is missing. I agree that the G-20 probably brought Pittsburgh back into the forefront of everyones mind. Hopefully this will mean good things for the city in the upcoming years.
The exposure that the city is getting is definitely good for the arts scene, the economy, and the attractiveness of the city as a destination. I hope that Carnegie Mellon and the School of Drama are well posed to take advantage of the many opportunities that are presenting themselves. As the article says, more and more movies are choosing to film in Pittsburgh. In fact, I believe that there are 3 filming right now. These provide perfect openings for interested students to get involved and get some outside experience. In addition to the film industry, I hope that CMU and the school of drama will use this in their marketing and use it to draw students and resources to the university. I have to be honest, when I was first deciding where to go for school, CMU was not my first choice because it is in Pittsburgh, now I know that this was a misconception.
