Before the Door

Carnegie Mellon University: "An actor, a producer and a finance director walk into a bar. It's no joke — it marked the start of a new venture for Carnegie Mellon alums and longtime pals Zachary Quinto (A'99), Neal Dodson (A'00) and Corey Moosa (A'00).
They've pooled their unique talents to create a media production company called Before the Door Pictures — a name that draws on one of the first acting exercises required of them in Carnegie Mellon University's drama program."

It is always interesting to see what CMU alumni are up to years after graduation. For these three, it seems the after college life is treating them pretty well. It is nice to see that they all have come from different majors as well to create a new product. Collaboration with our school is always a nice thing to see.

After a couple of days with being visited by past alumni, and now this great news, it has really started to make me appreciate all our alumni organizations. They are all very willing to help us just because we have attended this school. This is a great resource for everyone to utilize before and after they graduate. I wonder what types of achievements will we achieve once we graduate.

I think its really great that three carnegie mellon school of drama alumni that are successful are venturing to create a production company and collaborate with each other. during the hollywood panel when paula was speaking about the benefits of becoming so discipline through the drama program at cmu and reaping the benefits of working with such talented people in school and networking, it really made me realize how lucky i am to be in a program that is recognized so highly, and its really great that years after they've graduation, such a project is emerging especially since its named after something they learned right here at cmu

I have read about Before the Door already, and it's great that it's 3 alumni working together. They are really benefitting from Zachary Quinto's star power. I really like how they are branching out into comic books, and other media. The thing I don't understand, and would love to find out, is how this could become more profitable, especially since they are using the internet as their main forum. On a side note, in my opinion, the video Hostage: A Love Story is worth watching (on funnyordie.com), and it was a product of Before the Door.

I love when I can tell my friends and family "He went to my school." It's always so exciting. I think this is a good example of how sometimes that comes about because talented people go here and sometimes it comes about because you meet people who can bring out the best in you at a place that can bring out the best in you. It's just very exciting.

It's great to see graduates from CMU working together and creating new things. It's great to have the resource of alumni to work with and gain knowledge from, as we were able to do in the Hollywood Panel. Things like this just provide greater inspiration and opportunity for CMU students to succeed once their beyond college.

After hearing Steven Bochco and Paula Wagner talk last week about the connections we make here that will last for the rest of our lives, and this is such a perfect example of that. It's amazing that they have started this business, so recently out of school. I think it's awesome that they're supporting small ventures too. The graphic novels seem interesting. They're really at the cutting edge. And I LOVE that they're calling it "Before the Door."

On a shallow note, I love Zachary Quinto. I was completely nerding out to hear that Spock was a CMU alum. I love to hear he's using his star power to create a company. Also i love the fact that these alums have stayed in touch throughout their years and are successfully working together now. I hope my friendships at CMU will be just as valuable and lasting after college.

Articles like this make me hopeful for the years to come--who knows what students might go off and create their own companies, because famous stars and then invite little me to work under their guidance and expertise, all with this common experience between us? I find it wonderful that even after being apart from one another, alums (like Wagner and Bochco exemplified in their visit) can find common ground in their CMU Drama experience no matter the leaps and bounds made in their professional careers.
