Gory Easter productions miss an important part of the Gospels.
Slate Magazine: "This Easter weekend, tens of thousands of Christians across the country will turn out for Passion plays, dramatic portrayals focusing on the last week of the life of Jesus Christ. Many are tiny church pageants with casts of 12 disciples, a Jesus of Nazareth, and perhaps a couple of Roman centurions, all wearing bed sheets with nylon ropes tied around their waists. Others, such as the musical Tetelestai in Columbus, Ohio, and the Topeka Passion Play in Kansas, are semiprofessional events that hosting churches have perfected over the course of multiyear runs."

This article reminds me of the time that I went to Catholic school. I went to Catholic school from when I was born to the eighth grade. It was really different than everywhere else one time we had to do the passion of Christ has a play where one of us played Jesus, and carried an actual cross across the stage, and was fake whipped by our peers. I luckily was the narrator, so I did not partake. It’s very interesting how there are different portrayals of the Easter story at this time of year after just seeing Godspell that was a very different take than what I had done so many years ago passion plays are very interesting, this article talks about many of them my parents are coming to visit for Easter weekend and it makes me think of these times during Easter time in the past.
