Send a text, catch a bus with Port Authority pilot program

Pop City: "RouteShout allows riders to access bus arrival times from their mobile phones. The pilot program, launched by Pittsburgh’s deeplocal, is being beta-tested at 22 stops near areas that primarily serve college students."

This would be AMAZING, if it actually worked. The thing is, most college students and people who take the buss regularly *KNOW* the bus schedule. The problem is that doesnt determine when the busses are actually coming. While the port authority is pretty good most of the time, its not too hard to crack their schedule. busses come to CMU at the 15, the half the 45 and the hour. its usually either a few minutes before or after, depending on your stop. I'm glad that they are trying to improve it, and not make people sit in the cold, but i'm not sure this is the answer. Also, I tried taking the "tell us what you think" quiz, but it was a faulty link, and just reverted to the homepage every time!

I feel as though most of the time, my friends check a bus schedule online if its important to them that they get somewhere at a certain time. Others use i-phones etc. which does the same thing. Maybe this will be helpful, but i'm not super optimistic. But i do like the effort!

ive tried to use this before and it doesn't work. I agree that people just use their iphone to look up when the next bus is coming. i do find that most* busses but the 59u run on time, i think they need to add more 59u busses into the rotation. Also they need to clarify when and where you pay going on verse going off because the bus drivers always get so annoyed if you try and pay at the wrong time...but the rules make no sense!

There is not much worse than wasting the best pat of an hour waiting for a bus when there are many other things you should or have to be doing. This system would be great, but after trying multiple times and getting my homes up... I was always disappointed with the failure. Thank god for the iPhone, but that is still restricted to what the Port Authority predicts.

This sounds so useful!
I hate waiting for the bus and never knowing when its going to come. This would save me time waiting out in the cold. Sounds great!
