I especially like the point in this article where they impress upon the reader that if they are going to have to suffer through the meeting, they might as well gain something from it. And it is true, taking even semi-pointless and unnecessary notes can make you look more invested and if nothing else, it is really helpful in keeping you awake.
I use this a lot to stay awake, but in the end I usually find that the notes are more useful than I thought they would be. So the benefits are two-fold!
