“LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN” PURCHASES LARGEST SSL C200 SERIES CONSOLE IN THE WORLD
Briefing Room on SVConline: "“Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS will soon be the proud owner of a Solid State Logic C296 Digital Production Console, representing the largest C200 Series console in the world. The new console, which will handle all of the music production requirements for the show, will be installed in the legendary Ed Sullivan Theater this summer, replacing the SSL analog SL 4000 G Series console that has served the show for 15 years."

I never would have thought that David Letterman would require such a console. I would have thought that some big tour or vegas show first, but after reading the article I guess it makes sence. When you have as many guest artist as he does you do have to accomidate for them, so I can see why they would want something like this. I wonder if the other shows will be doing the same thing soon.
We've always been taught, that when designing a system for a venue, you must know what your venue is GOING TO DO. This is a strong example is strengthening that statement. The head mixer knew exactly what he needed out of a system and found it a no brainer in picking the right console. I could imagine it would take a couple years of working in the same venue to understand just exactly what you needed out of your system.
what are they gonna do? rollerskate from one side to the other?
I can't imagine how they need 96 channels..... well, okay, maybe if they're doing return mixes to the cameras and tapes and such.
