End of Pilot Season as We Know It

Backstage: "For decades actors have traveled to Los Angeles for the January-April pilot season, during which casting directors audition talent for new network shows. But with more broadcast networks rolling out new shows year-round, the traditional practice seems poised for extinction. Add to that the impact of the recent strike by writers and the looming threat of an actors strike, and this year's pilot season was strikingly short and meager."

A definate change is in the air for Hollywood. It just seems that they no longer have their act together and they need to make major changes to meet the changing of the times. Hollywood really needs to revamp through some of their contracts just to meet the demands of changing times and perhaps strikes might be less popular then they have been this year.

This is a positive direction television is moving to. Hearing that a girl from high school worked to graduate early so she could audition during pilot season, reminds me of why I hate the essence that is created around acting/fame. Allowing for casting to exist all year will not only help the stress level of television, but also the quality of show.
