Pilot Programs Lift Bay Area Playwrights

Backstage: "'Playwriting is a lonely art, until tons of people get involved all of a sudden and you lose control,' says Amy Mueller, artistic director of San Francisco's venerable Playwrights Foundation. Founded in 1976 by director Robert Woodruff and famed for such alumni as Sam Shepard and Mac Wellman, the Foundation has initiated two new programs to provide support and community for Bay Area playwrights: the Resident Playwrights Initiative and the New Play Incubator."

I'm surprised that there isn't already a large-scale, playwright-driven, well-established program like this. I'm glad to see that playwrights are coming together and successfully getting what they need from this community. But I also think this sounds like a really wonderful acting opportunity, hopefully one that will becme more prestigious and widely sought-after in the future. I have always wondered how exactly actors find new playwrights, and this seems like a really easy way to do so.
