Call for Artists: I-Am-A-Heather
Are you a Heather?
Deadline for submission: February 9th, 2008
People spend many years developing their identities, and this is the opportunity to show off yours. Heather Mallak, the curator of the upcoming I-am-a-Heather show, is seeking artworks created by or about a Heather.
Selected artists will be showcased in both craft and character in digital format including large-scale prints and interactive media.
The I-am-a-Heather exhibition intends to explore the social and psychological relevance and connotations of names. By analyzing artwork by or about Heathers from varying social and geographical climates, everyone is invited to consider the importance and impact of their own first name.
The exhibition coincides with both the April 26, 2008 Gallery Crawl through Pittsburgh's Downtown Cultural District and the Carnegie International opening on May 3, 2008. I-am-a-Heather will engage and interact with Pittsburgh's gallery scene and beyond; expect surprise guests, memorable performances and lots of Heathers!
Heather Mallak has spent 10 years coordinating, collaborating and performing with dozens of local artists to present over 40 multi-level, site-specific pieces in Pittsburgh. In May 2006 Mallak guest-curated "For Those About to Rock," a one-night performance art event at the Mattress Factory that drew hundreds of attendees. Mallak is "looking forward to making connectionswith Heathers across the country and potentially beyond."
So who are the Heathers in your life?
