Before the Green Screen, Stunt-Man Safety Was Measured by Seconds, Not Computers: Time Machine (August 1946)
Popular Mechanics: "During the heyday of the western in 1946, long before the development of green screens and other next-gen F/X tools, Popular Mechanics examined the safety methods and devices ensuring that stuntmen’s risk of life and limb would go no further than absolutely necessary."

Well its good that movie making is becoming safer for actors and stunt men but what I find interesting is how that changes the market of who gets hired. In order to make the same western movie 60 years ago when the producer would have been casting a stuntman who could run quickly out of a burning building he is now hiring a man who probably cannot run a mile but who can make a lot of things happen on a computer. No wonder obesity is such a problem now.
