NY Post: "AS THE strike that ate Broadway stretched through its second week with no end in sight, an absence was felt yesterday on the picket line. Where was union chief James Claffey?"
Really that's just bad PR. I don't think you can blame people for being grumpy when they're standing outside in the cold. Nor can you blame the Union for wanting a unified voice. Really if you had to stand out in the cold all day for a few weeks you wouldn't be the nicest person either. So relax and give everyone a break, life is hard, lets not make it harder.
WOW This article is ridiculous. Sounds like she was supposed to turn in a real article about the strike, but all her frustrations just made her write up a complaint to the public. It's a little depressing really. It seems as though all the press and the public just want the stagehands to shut-up and get back to their jobs. No one wants to see them or hear them. It's too bad that in this situation, no credit whatsoever has gone to the stagehands reasons for striking. And why is she so pissy anyway. There are 600 million articles about the strike right now, does she really expect the head of the union to give ANOTHER interview?
This is another example of the bad PR being released by the stagehands. It is hard to be sympathetic when all of the reports are of stagehands being rude to the public or not talking. How are we supposed to come to their side when we are not given the facts? All that the public is seeing is that men and women who are getting paid well (even if it's not 150,000, 75,000 a year is still more than i can hope to make for a long time) these men and women should be willing and hoping to express their side of the story in order to gain public accord.
Well who says you have to be able to get a comment from the union every second of every day? Why is it such a big deal that she couldn't get in touch with anybody. I call people all the time and they don't answer the phone, and nobody cares! It makes perfect sense that the union wants a unified front, so don't go harassing the stagehands because you know they aren't supposed to talk. The shear numbers of article on this topic isn't enough, once you read a couple, you see that the PR is stupid too. The writer can insinuate all she wants, but she really has nothing!
