Local Dispatch: The battle of Schenley Golf Course -- and how the people prevailed
Post Gazette: "Herb and I decided to approach Robert Mehrabian, then president of Carnegie Mellon. We stressed the disadvantages of privatization: students would no longer have access to the golf course (but they might be able to drink at the proposed clubhouse). The driving ranges would bring more traffic to further aggravate the university's parking problems. Countless residents (not to mention me and Herb) would be forced onto the busy roadway for our walk. CMU, we thought, should seek to acquire the golf course."

This is a really great article. It warms me to see people standing up for the greater good of the local community. Getting the school to back the mission obviously was a a strong hand to deal, but I'm glad it worked out.
