DGA Talks Likely Before End of Year
Backstage: "Barring a resumption of talks between the WGA and studio reps, the directors are likely to begin their own negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers sometime next month. There appears little chance that the DGA's much-anticipated talks with the AMPTP will be announced before Thanksgiving, so it probably will be Dec. 1 at the earliest before the parties could start talking turkey."

The DGA negotiations will probably benefit from the WGA strike if the strike is settled before they attempt to negotiate. If the WGA strike is settled, then there will be more definitive explanations of how the new entertainment media (internet, DVD) will be dealt with. This works for both the WGA and the DGA as well. Therefore, hopefully the DGA will attempt to wait out the WGA strike before negotiating themselves. Now that the WGA will be resuming talks with producers on the 26, it appears that the DGA will be forced to wait it out in the end.
