B'WAY TRUMPED
New York Post: "CONFIDENTIALITY agreements are flying around Broadway. Big stars are being hauled out of bed to attend 'secret' meetings. Producers and general managers are dropping everything to deal with the situation. What's the cause of all this frenzy and secrecy in Shubert Alley? If you thought the looming stagehand strike - you'd be wrong."

Is anyone else tired of Donald Trump? I can't believe he's pulling all of these stunts for publicity. It just makes me dislike him more, and it definitely doesn't make me want to watch The Apprentice. Where's the fun in watching failed celebrities bully Broadway promoters? I doubt they sold many more tickets by tossing out t-shirts in Times Square.
This makes me die a little inside. I can't belive that any tv producer would be interested in an idea like this. And since when did Donald Tump have anything to do with theater? This sort of thing is why people don't take our profession seriously. I know Mary-Lu Hener personaly, and I can't belive that she as a theater person would agree to something like this.
Its a little disheartening to see Donald Trump bully his way into theatre like this. Handing out t-shirts and CD's may have boosted ticket sales a tiny bit, but seeing something on the apprentice would be more likely to make me not want to see these shows. I can see why some producers would mad over these unauthorized publicity stunts.
Joining the bitter bus against the Donald, I too vomited a little bit in my mouth when reading this article. I understand the melding of corporate America and Broadway, based primarily around the massive income from subsidiary rights (thank you don marinelli). However, putting the Donald in this position makes it all very sour. At least Disney has always been in the business of story telling and making magic, but I wouldn’t call The Donald an artist. I suppose he justifies his way in to the theatre by the very classic theatre manager classification, a real estate mogul.
Even though I too am disgusted at Donald Trump and his hair I am confused at what he is trying to do. I know he is trying to get actors to raise ticket sales but why? I don't see what he's getting out of this and I don't think he would be doing this unless he was making a lot of money. Also even though everyone is bashing on Donald Trump maybe he truly likes theatre and is trying to help it out since NYC theatre isn't exactly doing so well.
This definitely confuses me, because I did not think that Trump was a big supporter of Broadway. He must have some support for it, though, because he is willing to give Broadway shows his "precious" TV time. The idea behind the show definitely is asinine, and probably won't garner the audience that would be going to Broadway, but I guess any publicity for Broadway is good publicity. I still wish it could have been done a different way. I was not a happy camper when reading this.
I really can't believe they think taking the show to Broadway is going to help ratings... Theatre is theatre, TV is TV, movies are movies... very rarely do they mix with success. It's a little "You're the One that I Want" or whatever that sacrelidge was were the leads of Grease were chosen by America. This is just painful. I know Broadway is as commercial as theatre gets, but It's still more sacred than "The Apprentice".
I just hate that because he is Donald Trump, suddenly he's allowed to do whatever he likes. I'm also completely shocked that there's no union up in arms about them pulling Broadway stars out of bed. To me, this is the antithesis of what theatre should be. Competition has no place between artists
