PG East preview: Actors say 'Fantasticks' gets better with age
Post Gazette: "The 1960 musical 'The Fantasticks,' which opens tomorrow at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center and is produced by Greensburg Civic Theatre, is the longest running musical in history, playing for 42 years off-Broadway despite a simple story -- young lovers Matt and Luisa unite, part, and reunite -- and a small cast and minimal set."

Fantastiks is the longest running show in New York history and it still has never been performed on Broadway. It odd to me how it ran for 37 years and had a revival a year and a half after it finaly closed. I never thought Fantastiks was that good.
When my high school did the Fantasticks, I wasn't involved but went to see it. By the end, people were embarrassed to admit that they worked on it. I didn't think it was as bad as all that, but it was mediocre and fluffy. That is probably why its been so enduring. I think that good things NEED to come to an end.
