OnStage: Lyricist out of 'Hell'

Star Tribune: "Rock lyricist, songwriter and record producer Jim Steinman is perhaps best known for his work with such artists as Meat Loaf ('Bat Out of Hell') and Celine Dion ('Falling Into You'). But Steinman also writes for theater. The musical 'Whistle Down the Wind,' his 1996 collaboration with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, died en route to New York but was successfully revived for a long run in London. It opens Tuesday at the Ordway Center."

I have to admit that I am astonished that the lyricist wrote for Celine Dion and Meat Loaf. However, he does seem to have this beautiful blend between the two genres in "Whistle Down The Wind." However, I think the style of the show and music may have been better precieved as a movie, rather than a stage show. It may have had a better response from the American public. On the other hand, it seems like it failed because both the composer and directed threw in the towel before the gig was up. The lack of faith in the show may have also been a factor.

being a big fan of Mr. Loaf, i always wondered if the lyricist would right a musical. i mean you can just picture a musical whenever you listen to Meat Loaf. it is no suprise to me, i would have been more suprised if he didn't write one. although i am not a hug fan of musicals i think i might make an exception for this one because its Jim Steinman, i mean you might even see me dancing and signing along with this one.
