Stage Preview: New Works Fest marks sweet 16 with changes

Post Gazette: "At 16, the festival continues to grow. This year's crop of new plays sports playwrights from as far away as Paris. Only four of the 12 mainstage plays, one in each of the four weeks of the festival, are from Pennsylvania playwrights."

I have worked in the past with the New Works festival as a support person or as a member of a production team. I think that it is a fantastic idea to expand the voting from the panel to the whole theatre audience. It is also really exciting to see that the festival has grown to an international event (as tiny as it still may be). The only problem that I can see with this is actually getting Pittsburghers to commit to being involved in such a long term project and getting a full punch card allowing them to be a part of the process. They're a fickle people.
