First Time Nationwide: Portland Presents All Of Shakespeare’s Works In Two Years

Arts & Life » OPB: If you’re a fan of Shakespeare, you’re in for a treat.
Over the next two years, local arts, theater and academic groups are banding together to stage all of Shakespeare’s plays, sonnets and poems. It’s the first endeavor of its kind nationwide, say organizers of the Complete Works Project.

This is awesome! A few years ago I went to a Shakespeare theater festival in Portland. We saw a really cool interpretation of Hamlet. It was very modernized and intense, full of sharp, black suits and slicked-back hair. There is so much culture and love of the arts in Portland. I'd love to see these many renditions of Shakespeare's plays! I'm sure they will all be very original and creative. What a great, impressive feet to take on all of Shakespeare's works in two years!!

Othello is a totally awesome way to start this project, not to mention all the money in this project all together. This is a brilliant idea because off of these plays and sonnets have proven to be timeless money makers. The public theater's Shakespeare in the parks are still going strong and will continue to do so for a good long time. I think it would be a shame if the theatre companies do not have a bit of fun with these shows, maybe start more traditional and then style wise use more freedom with the sets or costumes. It seems by the renderings in the article that they are going to keep it all traditional which is a bit of a shame.
