Will Shakespeare Be Popular in the Future?

paleofuture.gizmodo.com: When was the last time you read Shakespeare for pleasure? I'm sure a few of you can truthfully answer that it was last night or maybe just last week. But I'd dare wager that for most American adults (myself included) it was some high school English class. William Shakespeare's popularity has endured over four centuries. But can it last four centuries more? Not according to one futurist from the 1960s.

The ending of the article depressed me but it makes sense. Shakespeare's work has lasted so long because the stories have been come classics. They will continue to be plays preformed traditionally and modernized. I find it hard to believe a world where the issues Shakespeare explored in his plays will be forgotten. They are issues that will continue to ponder our lives everyday. There will always be some movie about star-crossed lovers, or avenging their father death.

It is very possible that Shakespeare will not be popular in the future, but I doubt it would be because the human race has evolved past greed. This is mostly because the prediction is based on the fact that humans have "unlimited resources" which isn't true at all. Shakespeare is still popular because its messages are about people who don't change through generations. Shakespeare has made it this far, he will live on.
