Drama Scene Shop – Day 1

The ImininTech Project: "Yesterday was our first day in the CMU Drama Department’s Scene Shop. They have every tool you could ever need to build amazing things. We also received a huge shipment of lumber and supplies."

Not to be mean, but this is hilarious. I love that that they think "They have every tool you could ever need to build amazing things." We don't have every tool to do everything, that's why we keep wanting to buy more tools! The pictures are really funny as well. They are so proud of a platform, while we are so proud of our flying staircase that sits on top of lots of platforms.

Seeing ETC in the shop was nice, I'm glad that we could share the space. Yes, it got crowded at times, but it's cool to have other groups come into the space and be able to see what projects they are working on. I am really looking forward to seeing their booth project when it goes up during Carnival. The dedication to the project is really amazing, exploring the website allowed me to get a firmer idea of where they want to take this. But I do sort of agree with Katherine. Yes, we do have the machinery that ETC needed for their platform and flat building project, but we are constantly looking for new tools to help us with our work. I understand that we do different work than they do, but there is no reason to disqualify the pride that they have in their work.

I'm currently working on a museum exhibit that is being built down at ETC, and boy do I wish we could be using the School of Drama shop. Our facility really does have EVERYTHING compared to their "room". It definitely puts things into perspective.

It was really a great experience to have the ETC building in the shop during playground. It was a nice change of people although it always turns out that we're building the same things we always build; platforms and walls.

I was impressed by their work and the amount of productivity they were able to get from seemingly inexperienced people. It really shows that motivation to do something can really surpass the expectations you may have of "unskilled labor." They did really well and I think they should be proud of the work they accomplished.

I agree with Liz and Naomi... When ETC was working in the shop I got a chance to talk to some of them a little bit, and they were so excited about what they were doing! Sure, they aren't trained to build stuff like others are, but the enthusiasm they had the whole time and the work that they did should be commended. They did a great job, and it was nice to have them be able to share our space.

I find it great that CMU lets some other student groups other then CMU drama students use and work in the drama shop. I am surprised that they found time in the shop with how busy we are there. We are constantly working on shows even up to three at a time, limiting even for us. I guess that playground was the best time for them to uses it because we have no shows in production at that time. I found that it was somewhat a hassle when they where working in there while we needed the space and equipment for playground. They stated that we have all the tools that you would ever need which is a stretch because we are always are in the need of new tools or replacement tools.
