Parsons launches new MFA program in Transdisciplinary Design

Core77: "Parsons The New School for Design announced a new MFA in Transdisciplinary Design set to launch in Fall 2010. The program is based in the School of Design Strategies at Parsons, which encompasses innovative programs that apply design thinking to study the intersection of cities, services and ecosystems."

I want to know more. This article does not seem to expand on exactly what transdiciplinary design is. The nature of the word makes the field sound interesting. From the article I gathered that the program was a synthesis of urban planning, sustainability, and a lot of the more "practical" design elements. It would be interesting to see them incorporate some of the more artistic design elements like performance and visual art. I also hope that the program is not one for people who can't make up their minds, but is designed with the intention of bringing multiple facets of design together to create a cohesive environment. I also wish that programs like this existed for fields other than design. There is so much crossover between even the most distant fields that knowledge from on can greatly enhance your ability to work in the other. That is not to say that the only reason to be involved in multiple fields is to increase the ability in your main concentration. It is to improve your self as a worker and to improve the fields themselves through cross-pollination.
