How installation art can make plastic waste more tangible
theconversation.com: Science tells us that plastic lives forever. From oceans to urban streets, plastic pollution has become a defining geological marker of our time – entangled with nature, yet often hard to see.

Art is about making the intangible tangible and calling into question our daily lives. While most people understand the danger of plastic waste on an intellectual level they don't have a feeling for it. After all, there's so little friction to creating waste. You use whatever is in a plastic container. Then you throw it away. But your focus is on whatever was in the container, not the harm that the container itself brings. Normally the moment the container is discarded is the last time you see or think about it. It goes in a bag. That bag goes in a bin. That bin is dumped into a truck and whisked away to a place you will likely never see. This artwork takes the waste produced by all of us every day and makes us confront it rather than allowing it to fade into the background. I believe that plastic waste and climate change in general is something that can only be solved with global cooperation so it is essential to get people around the world to think about it.
