While robotics is in many ways more advanced than the automation we see in theatre I think that many of the same safety protocols are necessary to prevent further incidents like the ones we see in the article. While all three stories in the article show some level of negligence the final one stood out to me. In the third story handlers need to drag a robot away as it begins to smash dishes in a hotpot restaurant. What stood out to me was not mention of an easily accessible emergency stop that handlers could use to stop the robot. While the article does not mention if this was due to a lack of an external emergency stop or lack of training on where it could be found there should never be a scenario where the operators need to try to physically restrain machinery. As for the other two stories I would liken it to if audience members were invited on stage while automated scenery was moving on stage. I hope that these incidents spark a greater regard for safety while working with robots.
