World-record mid-air LED mesh formed by Chinese drones

As drone shows become increasingly impressive and widespread I find myself wondering how they will fit into the design and production disciplines as we know them. Historically new technologies tend to fit into one or more existing disciplines until they become large enough to become their own department. For example lighting used to be handled by the technical director until it became large enough and split into an electrics department which also handled sound, etc. However, I think that drones will be unique in a production sense because maintaining a fleet of drones as large as the one shown in the video is disconnected from the technical abilities of many existing departments. Not to mention, even setting aside the technical knowledge necessary to work with drones maintaining a drone swarm of this size likely necessitates its own team due to scale alone. For these reasons I would imagine at least on the production side drone shows necessitate a dedicated department for working with the drones unlike the departments we see in theatre.
