3D Printing In Custom PLA With A TPU Core
Hackaday: [Stefan] from CNC Kitchen explored an unusual approach to a multi-material print by making custom PLA filament with a TPU core to make it super-tough. TPU is a flexible filament whereas PLA is hard almost to the point of being brittle. The combo results in a filament with some unusual properties, inviting some thoughts about what else is possible.

Okay this filament looks like and reminds me of hi chew which is why i continued to read the article. As someone who has dabbled in 3d printing enough to know the advantage and disadvantages every single type of filament has I was interested to see how using two types of plastic in one filament could affect these aspects of each filament. As someone who primarily used PLA when printing I was skeptical of how PLA and TPU would mix together in printing. This article confirmed my fears that PLA and TPU do not mix successfully and if these mixed filament is incredibly picky and temperamental. I really want 3d printing to have more of a use in the live entertainment industry but with 90% of parts it makes more sense to machine or fabricate pieces that a person may 3d print for personal use. I am curious if this filament with enough trial and error will become a staple in the prop or crafts shop in live entertainment.
