Review: 'The Kite Runner' at the Benedum

onstagepittsburgh.com: This week, I had the opportunity to experience a play with which I had only ever been familiar by the title. The Kite Runner, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, is a beautiful story about friendship, family, guilt, and redemption. I found the show to be profoundly moving, and I know it will leave an imprint on every audience member who encounters it.

I desperately wanted to see The Kite Runner when I heard it was coming to Pittsburgh this summer. The novel has been on my TBR list for months as the plot sounds fascinating and like it would open so many creative doors during a production process. I unfortunately was out of town when this show was at the Benedum but hope to see a production in the future. the technical side of my brain is wondering how the dozens of characters and locations are clearly communicated to the audience. I feel that sometime with plays or musicals that have been adapted from other mediums there are sometimes so many characters and locations in a show that it is hard to tell who is where when. From what the reviewer said it seems that this production of The Kite Runner was successful in creating those divisions onstage. I wish I was able to see this production future and will keep my eye out for more productions of The Kite Runner in the future.
