Review Roundup: ANNIE LIVE! Comes to NBC
www.broadwayworld.com: "Annie" is one of the most beloved and biggest hits in Broadway history and the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It has been licensed and performed in 50 countries and translated into eight languages. Based on the Harold Gray comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" that debuted in 1924, the musical premiered on Broadway in 1977 and initially ran for over four years.

I found it slightly funny that Noel Murray specifically said "kept the evening from slipping too far into stodginess" just because I only associate the word stodgy with The Great British Bake Off. Love hearing about those sadly stodgy cakes. Anyways, I was surprised at how big the names were of the cast listed. When you pull a group together where almost everyone is already a household name you have reputations to uphold and expectations to meet. (Especially when they're listed for a production like Annie, which, as they stated in the article as well, is a beloved hit.) While I've never seen Annie, or at least I don't think I have, maybe this will be the version I decide to see. (I assume there's somewhere I can stream it from online.) I'm curious to see if Celina Smith is someone whos career I should start paying attention to. From the glowing reviews people had for her, I assume so.
