Wow, Kung Fu Panda Live... I can't believe I've made it far enough in life that I get to maybe experience seeing The Furious Five in action (if I ever make it to Macau, or if it ever comes to the US). My one drawback is that maybe with all these great designers, and creative minds it might be TOO good. Or, that was an overstatement: sometimes even with all these big names, things get overwhelming and cluttered. With these big names, and a big expectation sometimes it just becomes too touristy and there's no actual substance to this story. However, it is my hope that KUNG FU PANDA LIVE can be one of the most kickass destinations in all of Asia. Imagine this, sitting down and you get to watch Po be chosen as the Dragon Warrior in the arena, see him train tirelessly under Master Shifu, through trials and tribulations, as he learns about the power of teamwork, family and friendship, all in all to be accepted as a FEARSOME warrior and save his village from Tai Lung. Say what you want about tourist traps, and the entertainment climate around adapting movies into mediocre live shows, but I AM SO EXCITED.
This sounds so cool. I really think, and on the record I never actually said this, but Universal Theatrical is kicking ass and I think producing better quality material then the Mouse House. Also what a stunning team between Stroman and Long, but also Michael Curry who is such a puppet genius that I can not wait to see what these animals look like. I remember seeing the film on its opening weekend in theaters, I was actually the right age to be the target audience and I was not quite sure what to make of it but then I really loved it. I did not understand a lot of it at first but I saw it a second time and it all clicked and it really hit me in that special spot. It will be such a physical show I cannot imagine the nightmare of longevity that has to be built into the puppets because one of the heads is going to be accidentally kicked off.
