Playing with Reality in the Performing Arts - AR, VR, and MR
AMT Lab @ CMU: Immersive experiences (VR, AR, and Mixed Reality) may be growing trends around the world but are less prevalent in the performing arts industry. Overall, VR and mixed reality is still in a phase of experimentation and growth. This makes it hard to fully define its general benefits or consequences to the performing arts as well as outline costs and potential benefits.

I just read another article about artificial intelligence. So it’s interesting to now read one about immersive experiences through technology. VR, AR, and Mixed Reality may be growing trends around the world, but I definitely agree that they’re not dominant in any industry yet. I definitely wonder about the positive effects and negative effects of augmented reality and other immersive experiences on the human psyche, as well as the brain in general. Considering how little we actually know about the brain, I’m not so sure I trust immersive technological experiences. The article also looks as single user vs multi user immersive experiences and how that can affect the user. An intimate single user experience will create a very different effect from a multi-user team work game. I do wonder about community engagement, special effects, audience engagement, and reach. All things this article touches on briefly. I think that when we think about Youtube, the world we live on is our technology screen.
