"Midnight Radio's: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz"

Pittsburgh in the Round: Can you name a place more magical than the emerald-spangled, poppy-pink land of Oz where witches, wizards, and munchkins (Oh my!) call home? It’s a place where not only the fantastical imagination of L. Frank Baum resides but also that of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Arthur Conan Doyle, and many more. On the map of this place, you’ll find Wonderland, Neverland, and the nine circles of Hell.

Oh this sounds sounds horrific. In Chicago they did a live radio version of It’s a Wonderful Life and it was a real drag. When they are always standing mostly in front of microphones its just missing something. Also being the public domain and having to adjust to a new adaptation is just not something that appeals to me. The MGM Oz is the best for a reason, it tells a good story. The original is episodic and Dorothy is just not a great heroine, always seeming more whiny to me then Alice by Lewis Carroll. From the pictures they are not costumed or in anyway finished, so they are trying to do old fashioned radio in modern style, which just totally crushes the entire charm of old radio. I might very much enjoy listening to it, however I would probably fall asleep if I actually had to sit through it.
