Attraction Review: The Walking Dead at Universal Studios Hollywood
www.themeparkinsider.com: Universal Studios Hollywood opened its new year-round The Walking Dead Attraction to reporters this morning. The attraction opens officially to the public on July 4, but invited guests were allowed to run the gauntlet between walkers and saviors to enter the attraction today.

The first thing about this article to catch my eye was the fact that both Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood are both opening new attractions, but after looking at the review, it’s easy to see that this new Walking Dead attraction and the new King Kong ride are extremely different. Not only does this seem like an actually good attraction (no offense to the people behind the King Kong ride, but it was lacking in many ways), the structures of the attractions is very different. The King Kong attraction fits what most would classify a ride to be, and is mostly large screens and simulators with an animatronic at the end. This kind of attraction, in my mind at least, has elements we see in theatre, with the presence of (scare) actors and the attention to the design of the ride that is being used to create an atmosphere and transport fans and non-fans alike into the world Universal has brought out of the screen and into reality. I hope I can get a chance to see this attraction, not only as a zombie fan but as a designer who could (from what I saw in the video) admire the attraction for not only what it is but how it creates the world of the Walking Dead.
