Concert Industry Plans Changes in Response to Attacks

www.nytimes.com: The music concert industry is starting to impose new security measures after performances were canceled in Paris and throughout Europe by U2, the Foo Fighters and other acts in the aftermath of the attacks at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris.

Live Nation, the global concert giant, said on Saturday that it would increase security at its venues, and other industry representatives are expected to do the same.

I am torn over this article. In many ways I believe that concerts should tighten security so no weapons can enter into the venue again. However, where would it end? If concerts are having tight security, then should theaters too? Its the same kind of public space. And if theater and concerts have strict security, then should all public entertainment events? Why not just have any public building with tight security, like libraries and shopping malls, and why not schools too? This is the problem, its one thing to have air port tight security but attacks can happen anywhere, and they have. So just having tight security on some concerts is not going to do anything. I understand that the performers and other audience members should be kept safe, and it that should be on the top of everyones priority list, but just adding some metal detectors at the front doors of concerts will not solve any problems. It may comfort those performing and the managers and people up the ranks, but it does nothing for our society. Lets fix the problem, not just try to contain it.
