Live Design Briefing Room press release archives: The White House celebrated Halloween with Trick or Treat festivities for close to 5,000 military families and area school children and the first projection mapping of the landmark residence. WorldStage was honored to participate in the event supporting the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) in illuminating the South Portico of the White House.

As a ground breaking event in term of the white house participating in theatrical events, this is really cool. Not only did media designers get to display their talent on a national level, but the idea of mapping to a building is crazy cool. I know it been done before, but just thinking of the projector power needed is crazy. It was a cute little endeavor and i have a feeling that the white house didn't want to go for anything extravagant. The only thing is I feel like calling this the debut of projection mapping is a little intense only because it has been done before just not necessary on an iconic figure like the White House. Perhaps this would have been a good time to try out some new technology on the building such as interactive adventures for the children, then i feel it would have been more appropriate to call it a debut.
I think it is great that the White House was able to use projection mapping to make Halloween more exciting and immersive. The projection mapping was able to transform the White House into a completely different building and make it look a lot more like a haunted house. It is really nice that they did this for military families because those kids do not get to spend their time with their parents. The projections were able to transport them into a different world. They were able to create different Halloween scenes and exciting animation. It is also really cool that students from UNCSA were able to be a part of the design and production of this event. That is a great opportunity to work on such a big and important event while you are still in school. They were able to make a huge impact on many kids’ lives.
