This article is extremely interesting. After recently completing Media Stagecraft, it makes me think about the place of projection in our field. It is such a powerful tool but yet only effective if done extremely corrective. It can provide the ooh's and aah's but sometimes can be very distracting from the content on stage. I think this class would be very interesting to see how you would take a beginner's approach to both the technology and design aspects of projection, as the article mentions there is an overwhelming amount of math and technology that goes into projection to make it look good.
I think media design is very interesting and really adds a special element to a production when done well. Projections are becoming more popular with advances in technology. I taught myself how to make projections for a show in high school, with a background in Final Cut Pro and TV production. Now that I am at CMU I have seen many different ways to incorporate media into a production. I did not have the resources at my high school to create projections like we do here. I can't wait until I get to the media mini in stagecraft and then I will be able to learn more about media and ways to use projections properly.
After seeing what media can do, and add to shows in Fool For Love, I feel this article is extremely important. Media can create amazing worlds and effects on blank walls, but it is also important to realize that shows are not just media. Shows are a combination of all the elements of technical theatre, and it is also a story. Hopefully in the media mini I will be able to learn more about media so that I can understand more about this incredible art form.
