It is really cool to read this article and see the advancements in the microphone industry throughout the past 100 years. As someone growing up in the 21st century I can see how the advancements in microphone technology is kind of like the advancements in computing technology that we see today. As an audio engineer I love seeing all of the recent advancements in digital consoles and how they are making the jobs of their users much easier. I can only imagine that this is the same type of thing that engineers would see with every new advancement in microphones when they would come about. With the amount of recent advancements in audio technology I am surprised that the most recent advancements in microphone technology have not necessarily kept up in recent years. It seems we are using very similar technologies that we have been for the past 5 decades.
