Art & Museums - The News Tribune
Art & Museums - The News Tribune: Cirque du Soleil brings its newest show to Western Washington on Thursday when it opens “Amaluna” at Marymoor Park in Redmond. The estrogen-fueled story is a retelling of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” – Cirque style.
French-Canadian performer Marie-Michelle Faber plays the Moon Goddess in the show, the latest of Cirque’s 19 shows in production around the world. The News Tribune caught up with Faber during the final week of the show’s latest stop in Vancouver, B.C.

I think the idea of bringing Shakespeare to Cirque is a brilliant one! for one there is no specific location or time for all of Shakespeare shows so it leaves open to possibility to do it anywhere in any time and place. Lending cirque to make it there own and fabulous. Its also a great way to tell a story through movement ing which is a huge part of cirque. I love that they're highlighting women and there rolls in performance also.
I agree with Alex that the Shakespeare/Cirque is a great idea. I love when companies mashup up old and new forms of theatre, creating an entirely new style of theatre. And I am so excited that there is a female dominant presence in this production. The subject is something new to Cirque, yet not overpowering to male audience members. I think the audiences will see the production mainly as aesthetically beautiful and not a feminist piece, even though those ideas are there. I am sad that Cirque is experience a loss in finances, however. Hopefully they can pick themselves back up soon.
