Theater review: 'Cat on Hot Tin Roof' smolders

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: A star revival can seem to be more about the star than the play, the star often being the essential prerequisite. Witness Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," which is so often dominated in the imagination by the determinedly seductive Maggie the Cat. So cast Scarlett Johansson and you'd seem to have a classic star vehicle. Ms. Johansson certainly has the equipment: curvaceous figure, pouty lips, throaty voice. But unlike some movie stars, she is also a fine stage actor, as she proved three years ago in her first Broadway foray, in Arthur Miller's "A View From the Bridge."

I remember reading another article about this stage revival. It talked about how there was a new character added to the show that had never been there before, but after previews the actor was fire because the director no longer wanted the character in the show. I believe the producers then had trouble with AEA. Its good to read that the show is all good now!

More recently there is a major break in film actors going to Broadway. My first thought is that these people are hired to sell tickets, which is perfectly legitimate. Then I actually saw a show with Justin Kirk who i had seen on "Weeds" and he was absolutely amazing. After that I kind of had a new found respect for those crossing over to theatre.
