TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
KENT STATE UNIVERSITY

The School of Theatre and Dance invites an energetic, innovative and collaborative Technical Director Assistant/Associate Professor to join a progressive faculty of 15 for a 9-month, non tenure-track position starting August, 2013.  Opportunities for summer employment at Porthouse Theatre, the School’s Professional Summer Theatre.  MFA in theatre technology and 3-5 years experience in teaching at the university level or professional equivalent. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in theatre technology, 2D and 3D CAD, welding, rigging. Responsible for the overall organization of the technical production process for 4 mainstage theatre productions and 3 dance concerts, generating working drawings, collaborating with faculty and staff, engineering scenery and special effects, attends technical rehearsals and all production meetings, and supervision of graduate teaching in fundamentals courses. The successful candidate will have strong skills in scenery construction, engineering and materials research, metal fabrication and welding, hydraulics, pneumatics and motor control/automation, technical drafting, rigging, and safe work practices.  Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaborative skills, budgeting and time management skills essential. Collaborates with DT faculty of five and a technical staff of five including Production Manager, Scene Shop Supervisor and Sound and Lighting Supervisor.
