Those Whom the Gods Love by Christina Myers & Olivia Lilley

Kickstarter: This is the story of Sonia, a sheltered astrophysics major at the University of Chicago; she secures an internet boyfriend, Darren, an aging trust fund baby in Malibu, who flies her out for the weekend to lose her virginity. Lulu, Darren's neighbor and Harvard drop-out turned undercover paparazzi - will stop at nothing to win back the love of a Lindsay Lohanesque superstar who sent her on a downward spiral. With her discovery of Lulu, Sonia's eyes are opened to a world she's only ever read about in the tabloids.

I have to say that I am kind of flabbergasted. I read the article because I remembered Olivia Lilley by proxy, and was excited to read that Michael Berger and Andrew Leitch were also apart of the team. Upon reading the plot synopsis, and laughing a little that the main character and I had the same name; I then decided to watch the video. Because there was a small part of me that thought that I might give a little if I could. I have to say that I am glad that Lilley was able to create this piece of work and find a team to be willing to help her see it further, thats great. What infuriates me, is the manner in which Lilley shot this video. She is asking the public for money, great, thats what kickstarter is for. But you do not do that in a bathroom, acting like you just woke up, rambling, mumbling and not getting to a point. I couldnt even finish the video, its such a shame since this is so important to them. That being said, I wouldnt give anything to their cause, I was so off put.

Reading the synopsis, I thought this seemed like a really interesting project, with characters I want to know more about. It sounds like they have a very original setup, with the idea of presenting in a warehouse, and I'd really like to see what their design team comes up with in terms of a set and overall concept. But like Sonia, I was completely put off by the video. Everything about it, from the presentation to the content, was very unprofessional and, sadly, totally dis-served and took away from Lilley's message. My original positive reaction has been seriously dampened by the video, and this is such a great example of the importance of professionalism, regardless of your level of expertise or experience.

with all the buzz about corey cott and grey who are indeed getting some fantastic opportunities im personally more thrilled to see oliviah creating an opportunity for herself. its nice to be reminded again again what will be capable of once we survive cmu school of drama. Im somewhat sad though that the show is so close to my home town yet i wont be able to see it.

Well that's disappointing. I do agree with Sean that it's great to see people making opportunities for themselves, but my goodness, with that video it seems like she's not taking it nearly as seriously as she probably (or at least hopefully) is. That video was embarrassing to watch. I entirely agree with Sonia and Camille's reactions. I am flummoxed as to why she would choose to post that on kickstarter and expect a positive response. What a waste. That is truly a shame.

Kickstarter is a great way to make some money. On top of the money, it's also a test in marketing yourself. Kickstarter walks you through a lot of great way to market a production. People want to see things! Talk about yourself! Send it to everyone! PigPen does a great Kickstarter, you should check it out.

Also Kickstarter is a great way to find interesting volunteer work, to make connections with other interesting (and desperate for volunteers) organizations and projects. Just email them and tell them you think they are doing cool things!
